Ficus Bonsai

Ficus is a genus; there have various species in ficus plant. Banyan Plant, Weeping Fig, Chinese Banyan Fig, Port Jackson Fig etc are species of ficus plant.

1. Banyan Plant

Banyan Plant or Indian Banyan plant is a type of bonsai plant that belongs from Ficus genus. This plant is a common bonsai plant of India. Belonging from family of “Moraceae”, which is scientifically known as “Ficus benghalensis”. This plant has a different type of characteristics i.e. it has aerial roots which is growing in downward. It is a houseplant that helps to decorate lawn, outdoors, indoors etc.

Banyan plant needs bright light for its healthy growth and it requires well-drained moist soil. Regular watering is preferable for this plant growth.

2. Weeping Fig

Weeping Fig plant is another ficus plant and it is a bonsai plant. Weeping fig plant belongs from family of “Moraceae” that is commonly known as “Benjamin's fig” and “Weeping Fig”. Scientific name of this plant is “Ficus benjamina”. Weeping plant is a species of flowering and houseplant that is a very slow growing plant.

For this plants well growth, it prefers well-drained soil; excess watering is harmful for this plant growth. It must be repotting every few years either it is tough to alive this plant. This plant needs bright sunlight but direct sunlight can be damage this plants growth. Indirect bright sunlight is preferable for this plant. Temperature ‘between 15°C to 25°C’ is acceptable by this plant, excess temperature is harmful for this plant growth. Moderate humidity and once in a month liquid fertilizer is preferable for this plant.

3. Chinese Banyan Fig

Chinese Banyan Fig is a bonsai plant, which belongs Ficus genus. This plant belongs from family of “Moraceae” and scientific name of this plant is “Ficus microcarpa” that is commonly known as “Chinese Banyan”, “Curtain fig”, “Indian Laurel” and “Chinese Banyan Fig” etc. It is an ornamental plant that is a very surviving plant. Leaves of this plant are green or greenish with whitish in color and very shiny.

Chinese Banyan Fig plant is a fast growing plant. Chinese Banyan Fig plant needs well drained or moderately drained soil is preferable; clay, loam, sandy any of these soil types is acceptable by this plant. This plant requires moderate temperature and poor or moderate watering.

4. Port Jackson Fig

A bonsai plant is Port Jackson Fig plant that belongs from Ficus genus. Scientific name of this plant is “Ficus rubiginosa”, which is commonly known as “Rusty fig”, “Little-leaf fig” and “Port Jackson Fig” etc and this plant belong from family of “Moraceae”. Its leaves are oval shaped and greenish or brownish in color.

Port Jackson Fig plant needs bright light, morning sunlight is good for this plant growth but afternoon sunlight is harmful for this plant growth. This plant requires temperature ‘between 10°C to 15°C’ and it must be covered in night of Winter season. Moderate watering is preferable for this plant and over watering can be damaged this plants growth. In its growing time it needs liquid fertilizer for this plants well and healthy growth.
